The Application Process

Current 8th Graders

The KAMSC application process for next fall's (2007) entering ninth grade class will begin in November, 2006. Approximately 3000 general information packets will be sent during mid-November to eighth grade students who live in the KRESA (Kalamazoo Regional Educational Services Agency) district.

The packet contains information inviting eighth grade students and their families to a special introduction to KAMSC, on Wednesday, December 6, 2006 at 7 PM in Chenery Auditorium (714 South Westnedge) and the forms necessary to register for the entrance exam on Saturday, January 13, 2007.

Students must register by December 12, 2006, to take the entrance exam on Saturday, January 13, 2007. Eighth grade students applying to KAMSC for the 2007 school year can contact the KAMSC office (337-0004) for additional information.

Students that have taken the entrance exam will receive their test scores in the mail. After they receive their scores, a response card may be brought to the KAMSC office to receive an application packet. This will be approximately the week of January 26, 2007. If you have questions on how to complete your application form, a question/help session will be held on February 7, 2007 in the KAMSC presentation center at 6:30 p.m. All portions of the application are due in the KAMSC office by February 14, 2007. Teacher recommendation forms should be returned to KAMSC directly from the middle school.

The applicant review panel, made up of volunteers from the community, will meet in March, 2007 to review applications. Letters (of either invitation or denial) will be mailed out in April, 2007 to all applicants.

There are at least 75 openings for the freshman class. Students must attend a private or public high school in the KRESA (Kalamazoo Regional Educational Services Agency) district in order to be eligible for the 9th grade program. These schools are: Climax-Scotts, Comstock, Galesburg-Augusta, Gull Lake, Kalamazoo, Parchment, Portage, Schoolcraft, Vicksburg, Hackett Catholic, Prairie Baptist, Heritage Christian, Kalamazoo Christian, Reformed Heritage Christian, Kalamazoo Seventh-Day Adventist and Charter Schools.

Current High School Students

KAMSC will begin sending out applications in February, 2007 for openings in the 10th, 11th, and 12th grade classes of 2007. If interested, call the office the first week of February, 2007 to request an application packet. Acceptance is on a space-available basis, and decisions are not made on a fixed time-line. Applications are reviewed by a volunteer panel as referenced above. Qualified students are then placed on a waiting list. As openings occur, letters of invitation are sent. Openings can occur anytime between June and the beginning of school for 2007. Openings for 10th, 11th, and 12th graders are NOT limited to students in the KRESA (Kalamazoo Regional Educational Services Agency) district. Contact KAMSC for more information about our "out-of-district" policy.

Interested students should talk to their home high school guidance office about their interest in attending KAMSC. Current high school students should complete an application, available in February, prior to taking the entrance exam, scheduled in April or May of 2007 at KAMSC. Contact KAMSC (337-0004) for testing and application information and/or materials.
